Two fishermen have drowned on Lake Kariba in Siavonga District of Southern Province.
Siavonga District Commissioner (DC) Geoffrey Jakopo confirmed to the media that the duo met their fate on Thursday morning when the canoe they were paddling capsized due to a storm that swept it.
Mr. Jakopo explained that they were three people in the canoe but one managed to swim to safety.
He said the incident happened between Simunjalala and Munene islands.
Mr. Jakopo identified the deceased as Douglas Kasonkomona and Junior Mwamba while the survivor as Alfred Chinyeku, all residents of Siavonga.
The DC said marine police have since launched a search in a bid to retrieve the bodies of the duo.
Siavonga DC revealed that the bodies have been found and retrieved stating that one body was buried yesterday and the other one was retrieved this morning deposited in Siavonga district hospital mortuary and will be be buried this afternoon.
Mr. Jakopo advises kapenta fishing vessels owners to ensure that their workers to have life saving jackets whilst fishing on lake Kariba to reduce accidents.
