A non-governmental organization constructs 29 health rooms in Choma District to improve heath in learning institutions.

Government through the Ministry of Education has commended efforts by Healthy Leaners a non-governmental organization which is implementing Health project in Lusaka and Southern province of Zambia.

In a speech read on his behalf by School Heath and Nutrition Director Mrs. Malalu Mulundika, during the official handover of the Heath Rooms in Choma southern province held at Adstra Basic School, Minister of Education Honorable Douglas Siakalima .MP stated that the UPND government is committed to improving education standards in the country and that efforts by other partners like Heath Learners, goes a long way in addressing the general provision of quality and equitable education as indicated in the manifesto.

Also Heath Leaners President, Mr. Lonnie Hackett explained that 29 Health Rooms have so far been constructed in Choma District alone. Mr. Hackett explained that these Heath Rooms are integral to the implementation of the school heath program and a key pillar to improving the health of learners.

Mr. Lonnie Hackett reaffirmed Healthy Learner’s commitment to support the Ministry of Education’s plans to expand the school heathy program to other parts of Zambia. He said that through this program, over 700,000 Children will benefit from this program.

And Provincial Education officer Mrs. Florence Chikalekale thanked Healthy leaners for this initiative. She stated that this project will improve the attendance of Children in school. She explained that these Health Rooms will encourage and improve the attendance of leaners in schools.  The PEO has called on Teachers, Pupils and the public to guard these facilities and put them to good use.

In attendance was His worship the mayor of Choma Javen Simoloka, District commissioner Gamela Sikaleya, Provincial administration officer Hope Chiposo, Chief Cooma, Chief Macha and Chief Mapanza’s representative, School Head teachers and other government officials.
