The Parliamentary on Local Government Accounts Committee has today visited Choma Municipal Council to get a clarity on matters raised in a submission presented by the Auditor general’s report.
Committee Chairperson hon. DARIUS MULUNDA says the submission presented to the committee for Choma Municipality indicates lacking adherence among the controlling officers on the stipulated guidelines and instructions, abusing of public resources, adding that it does not respond to queries raised.
Mr. MULUNDA has however observed that, “the cliques of thieves President Hakainde Hichilema talked about earlier, have now moved from the central government to the local authorities”.
Mr. MULUNDA says going forward the committee will now request those in charge during the year of review to appear before the committee.
Meanwhile, Mr. MULUNDA says revenue not collected receipted between 2020 and 2021 were not accounted for in either deposit slips or cash.
He has since advised councils to be factual and attach all required documents as they present their submissions to the committee.
And Choma Municipal Council director of engineering services Eng. MALIWA MUCHUU explained that revenue was not collected due to constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
