GOVT STARTS CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW PROCESS

Justice Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says government has begun the initial processes of reviewing the Constitution.

Mr. HAIMBE says the aim of reviewing the constitution by the new dawn government is to establish a durable constitution that is anchored on a broad based consensus.

He says amendment of the constitution will necessitate amendments to other pieces of legislation or possibly the introduction of new legislation that will have a bearing on democracy.

And Mr. HAIMBE says government will provide a policy and legal framework that will ensure corruption is fought from all angles.

He says government acknowledges the challenge that corruption has on development and pledges zero tolerance of all its forms.

Mr. HAIMBE said this when United States of America Charge’ D’ Affairs MARTIN DALE visited the ministry of Justice in Lusaka today.

He also said government will ensure the country conducts campaigns and elections that are credible, free and fair as demonstrated in the recently held Kabwata by election.

Meanwhile Mr DALE commended the government for following the rule of law and respecting the rights of suspects in its corruption fight.

Attorney General MULILO KABESHA was also in attendance.
