Siavonga Kapenta fishermen calls for fixed salaries

Kapenta fishermen in Siavonga district of Southern Province have called on government to consider revisiting the current Fishing conditions.

Victor Hazemba a fisherman tells Choma Maanu News in a Telephone interview that the current conditions are not conducive considering a lot of risks fishermen bear during their fishing activities.

Mr. Hazemba has termed it unfortunate and further called on relevant authorities to intervene into the matter.

According to Mr. Hazemba, fishermen are being waged according to the numbers of crates they have corralled of which one crate is ranging in the prices between k10 and k15 each.

And Mr. Hazemba is now calling on government through the ministry of fisheries to consider enacting a law that supports waging Kapenta fishermen on fixed salaries.

The conditions in fishing industry have become a source of concern to Kapenta fishermen as they have not only triggered anxiety among fishermen but also food insecurity and poverty as fishing is one of the major activities in Siavonga district.
