A joint team of local rescuers in Namomba village of Siavonga district have joined hands together in search of a man who drowned in Zambezi River after he was attacked by a crocodile in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 2022.
A man identified as KENNETH SIKOPANO was on Wednesday morning attacked and killed by a crocodile whilst on a fishing spree on the shores of Zambezi River.
Siavonga Town Council Chairperson his worship GIVEN KWAPU told Choma Maanu NEWS that, “The body of the deceased has not yet been retrieved from the river.”
Hon KWAPU explained that Mr. SIKOPANO was fishing and the crocodile grabbed him from his canoe and pulled him into deep waters and then met his fate.
The deceased is believed to be in his age 40 to 45, a resident of Namomba village and also a ruling UPND Nanyanga ward publicity secretary in Siavonga district of Southern province.
Siavonga district has the highest number of crocodile attacks with many people falling prey to the deadly predators every year.
The Zambezi river is however not only the source of water for the people in this district, but also a source of income as many people depend on fishing for a daily living.
Earlier on, Siavonga Town Council Chairperson his worship GIVEN KWAPU bemoaned the increase of human attacks by reptiles along Zambezi River.
HON. KWAPU suggested that “cropping the crocodiles is the only solution to reducing the increased number of human attacks by reptiles in river banks of Zambezi River as many lives have been lost”.
